The American Kestrel is the littlest falcon but packs a predator’s fierce intensity into its small frame. It is found widespread in North America from Canada to the Southern US. They eat mostly insects and other invertebrates, as well as small rodents and birds. The painting is of a photo taken in Ontario by Steven Rose, a photographer, and permission to paint and sell was granted by him.

The peacock has been linked to Kuan Yin, and it is this deity that is supposedly the creator of the beautiful colors of the peacock’s signature tail feathers. The peacock is a symbol of the compassion and the integrity that is possible in all religions. It is a reminder to all of us to show our true colors.

I remember the peacocks that were in Cave Hill Cemetery and Arboretum.  It had been in my back yard on one occasion.  I think they are so beautiful and wanted to paint those beautiful plumes
